The Curie Institute Research CenterThe “Institut Curie” is a major player in the research and fight against cancer. It consists of a hospital and a Research Center of more than 1000 employees with a strong international objective of the Curie Institute Research Center is to develop basic research and to use the knowledge produced to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics of cancers as part of the continuum between basic research and innovation serving the patient.

Laboratory-Department

INSERM Unit U932 “Immunity and Cancer”, located at the Institut Curie, comprises 10 teams with a total staff of around 160, spread over two buildings (Hospital Curie and building Constant-Burg, rue Lhomond). The Unit's teams work to better understand immune responses, and to train the immune system to better fight pathogens and / or tumors. Research projects range from basic immunology to translational immunotherapy and clinical immunotherapy in cancer patients.

Research teams use fluorescence light microscopy to visualize various biological processes in cells (living or fixed), tissues and spheroids made up of human or mouse cells. We are looking for an enthusiastic and service-oriented Bio-Image Analyst.

The candidate will work in the Immunity and Cancer Unit, interacting closely with the Cell and Tissue Imaging Department (PICT; He / she will collaborate with the unit's researchers and their collaborators, helping them to develop solutions for image analysis. Projects will range from the design of image analysis workflows to the development of custom scripts / macros / plugins, to more comprehensive collaborations where the analyst may take charge of part of the project and provide the analyzed data. The candidate will also advise and teach users on image analysis strategies. He / she will also advise users on how to use microscopes to take quality images and will maintain a confocal microscope present in the unit.

Missions
Description of activities
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of the Unit's microscopes, and train users to ensure image capture quality.
  • Implement, validate, maintain, and update image analysis and processing tools based on multidimensional fluorescence microscopy datasets.

For projects requiring specific developments
  • Train scientists in the use of the tools developed and produce tutorials.
  • Know how to use and optimize deep-learning networks, or be trained in the use of these tools.
  • Maintain a methodological watch (bibliography) and implement within the team existing pipelines that may be useful.
  • Animate the community of scientists using microscopy and / or image analysis tools to stimulate sharing and discussions on practices.
  • Participate in the drafting of articles including image analysis (materials and methods, figures and legends, etc.).
  • Present results and methods at team meetings.

For these tasks, the engineer will work in collaboration with senior engineers in the Cell and Tissue Imaging Department.

Profile required
  • Holds an engineering degree or a master's degree in (bio)computer science, (bio)physics, applied mathematics or a related field
  • Preferably has professional experience in optics / microscopy and image analysis in the context of research or research activity support
Skills required
  • Experience in optics, preferably microscopy
  • Strong experience in image processing, data visualization and software development (Icy, Fiji / ImageJ, Napari).
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB, Java, C / C++).
  • Enjoy collaborating with others on their projects.
  • Ability to work in a team while managing several projects simultaneously with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Experience in biology would be a plus.

Contract Informations

Type of contract: CDD.

Start date: 01 / 06 / 2024.

Contract duration: 18 months, renewable.

Working hours: Full time.

Remuneration: in accordance with current salary scales.
