GravitHy is an innovative French company with a global ambition to decarbonize the steel industry. Our goal is to produce large-scale, low-carbon green Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) using renewable and low-emission hydrogen. We plan to build, own, and operate our first green iron plant in southern France (2.2B€ Capex), with the intention of replicating this model across Europe and beyond.

About the role :

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer Manager to oversee, validate, and share expertise on mechanical aspects related to our decarbonization project using green hydrogen. This role is crucial during the basic and detailed engineering phases, focusing on rotating equipment, vessels, refractories, duct geometry, and piping structures. The Mechanical Engineer will guide team members and contribute to procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities.

Key responsibilities - Engineering :

  • Develop the engineering design basis aligned with the company’s sustainability goals.
  • Establish design bases for vessels, structural components, piping, and refractories.
  • Review equipment data sheets from third parties to ensure safety and process compliance.
  • Identify potential improvements in third-party equipment specifications.
  • Develop a mechanical maintenance philosophy emphasizing safety and sustainability.
  • Provide technical input for permitting and modeling activities.
  • Review, monitor, verify, and approve mechanical engineering deliverables from third parties.
  • Collaborate on technical issues with OEM suppliers and participate in engineering studies like HAZID / HAZOP.
  • Assist in estimating costs for equipment supply, assembly, and commissioning.

Main duties & responsibilities – Project :

  • Support procurement activities with OEM suppliers, providing technical expertise.
  • Visit potential OEM suppliers’ facilities and provide technical feedback.
  • Conduct frequent site visits and participate in international visits when needed.
  • Supervise construction, commissioning, and start-up phases focusing on mechanical components.
  • Produce documentation for studies, analyses, and designs.
  • Report activities according to project schedules and quality standards.
  • Utilize feedback for continuous improvement.

Required skills & knowledge :

  • Experience in oil & gas, fertilizer/ammonia, or steelmaking sectors related to mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering deliverables for mechanical equipment, ducts, vessels, and piping.
  • Proficiency in analyzing process data and troubleshooting.
