Institut Curie is a major player in cancer research and the fight against cancer. It consists of a hospital and a research center with more than 1000 employees with a strong international representation.
The objective of the Institut Curie Research Center is to develop fundamental research and use the knowledge generated to improve the diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics of cancers within the continuum between fundamental research and innovation for the benefit of patients.
Laboratory
The ATOMIC team «Advanced Therapy in radiation Oncology and Molecular Imaging Characterization» (UMR9029/U1353/Université Paris Saclay)specializes in developing new therapeutic strategies aimed at increasing the therapeutic index of radiotherapy. In line with the institutional FRATHEA project, the team has been actively involved in the development of FLASH radiotherapy (Favaudon et al., Science Translational Medicine , 2014), which reduces radiation-induced toxicities while maintaining anti-tumor efficacy comparable to that of conventional radiotherapy (known as the FLASH effect).
In close collaboration with radiation oncologists and medical physicists of the team, the project aims to conductpreclinical studiesto validate thenew FLASH-VHEE irradiatordeveloped at Institut Curie,specially in the frame of the FRATHEA project [1] .
