Job Description

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Human Factor Specialist (f/m) to join our Technical data team within Airbus’ Customer Services Department based in Toulouse, France.

The Human Factors’ mission is to contribute to safety and customer operation efficiency, by ensuring that Airbus considers Human performance and limitations in its research, development, certification, production, customer support activities for its Products, Services and Processes. Minimize human operator workload and errors, enable effective abnormal situation responses and enhance task performance is part of the mission.

You will be part of the department of SIDO, Technical Data Operations, whose mission is to combine digital solutions, innovation and expertise diversity to deliver Maintenance & Flight instructions and provide worldwide support to our customers for safe and efficient operations all along the aircraft life cycle.

Your mission will be to integrate human factor principles in technical data products, processes and tools to simplify and enhance the usability of maintenance instructions and system descriptions while keeping them safety-centric, efficient and user-centered for our Customers.

This will contribute to making maintenance operations safer and more efficient on both current and future aircraft programs through the application of a User Centered Design philosophy.

Your challenges

As part of a highly transversal team that supports all elements of the documentation lifecycle, your work will be highly varied and interesting.

You can expect to be involved:

  • In the design of maintenance instructions, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and the Airbus technical data visualization tool (airnavx)
  • In the user-centred validation of instructions integrating the aircraft design
  • In the analysis of in-service feedback related to maintenance documentation content
  • In research projects for future documentation and tools.
Main responsibilities
  • Providing robust support to design and validation of maintenance documentation, based on in-depth expertise of Human Factors, and Maintenance knowledge.
  • Develop and validate Human Machine Interaction guidelines and standards for today’s and future products.
  • Conducting human factor evaluation of documentation on critical functions, and selecting methods according to the demonstration need (virtual environment, On Aircraft Validation methods, etc.).
  • Conducting Human Factor analyses of in-service written tasks and procedures to capture issues, safety risks and lessons learnt.
  • Contributing to Human Factors in Maintenance documentation innovation and research projects, to ensure appropriate human system integration, and the safe and efficient conduct of maintenance, repair and ground operations for the future.
  • Support the development of Human Factors in Maintenance governance, processes, methods & tools, to proactively influence the design of the documentation, its contents and its container.
Education and Professional skills
  • Master degree or PhD in Cognitive Psychology/Ergonomics, and knowledge of human and human factors methods (complete cursus up to master-2 or PhD).
  • Academic or professional background in physiology and anthropometrics would be appreciated.
Human factor competencies
  • D023: HF-Psychology & Sociology _ level 3
  • D097: Human Machine interaction_ level 3
  • D024: Physiology_level 2
  • ACFT operations knowledge_level 3
Technical knowledge and competences
  • Knowledge of human capabilities and limitations in front of complex and high risk system.
  • Knowledge of HMI usability criteria and processes for the design of products.
  • Knowledge of maintenance tasks, aircraft and airline operations, working constraints in normal and abnormal conditions.
  • Work experience of 5 years minimum as Human factors specialist: in order to be at ease with human factors/ergonomic methods and practices in human factors design and evaluations and maintenance operation activities.
  • Knowledge of standards in the field of human factors & maintenance (norms, standards...).
  • Language skills: an advanced level in English is required (minimum B2, C1 targeted).
