A dynamic visual effects studio is seeking a Senior FX Artist to design photorealistic water effects. This temporary role (August 20th - September 9th, 2025) requires a minimum of 10 years of FX experience, expertise in Houdini, and a strong collaborative spirit. Please note this is only for a temporary contract from August 20th, 2025, to September 9th, 2025.

We are seeking a Senior FX Artist specialized in photorealistic water effects.

The FX Artist designs and creates complex visual simulations such as fire, smoke, fluids, destructions, and abstract effects, adhering to Rodeo FX's artistic and technical standards. As part of the 3D pipeline, they collaborate closely with FX and CG supervision teams, as well as other departments, to deliver photorealistic, dynamic, and technically solid shots. Their creativity, precision, and mastery of procedural tools enable them to effectively translate visual intentions into compelling effects.

Main responsibilities include:

1. Mastery of craft: Produce complex simulations (smoke, fire, explosions, liquids, destruction, magical or abstract effects) following artistic and technical guidelines; use Houdini effectively (Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum SOPs); maintain autonomy in FX tasks; ensure quality control of files and workfiles.
2. Creative quality: Propose effective artistic solutions aligned with project vision; participate in dailies; adapt effects to narrative, style, and scene pacing; add creative value to simulations.
3. Technical quality: Optimize caches, ensure setup stability, identify and solve technical issues, collaborate on tool development, verify effects compatibility with other departments.
4. Communication: Provide estimates, communicate risks or issues, collaborate with production, and participate in briefings and progress monitoring.
5. Learning and evolving: Keep up with latest VFX practices, share knowledge, document workflows, and welcome feedback for continuous improvement.

Qualifications include:

• Minimum 10 years of FX experience in a VFX studio.
• Expertise in Houdini (Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum SOPs).
• Basic knowledge of compositing (Nuke) and rendering (Arnold, Karma).
• Knowledge of USD and Solaris.
• Good sense of movement physics and visual rhythm.
• Rigor, autonomy, attention to detail, team spirit.
• Preferred: experience with Houdini tools development using Python or VEX scripts.

• Freelance position available for artists based in France ONLY.
