Overview

At MALHERBE PARIS, our independent creative agency at the crossroads of art and commerce, international leader (Paris, Shanghai and New York) in retail design, hospitality and digital creation. We work with major global brands on design and retail strategy (Hennessy, Dior, Sephora, L’occitane, Krug, Cartier, Mandarin Oriental, etc.). For over 30 years, we have been asserting the difference of a French culture and imagining new shopping experiences by combining a creative approach based on elegance, innovation and freedom of expression, applied to a multitude of retail professions: hotels and restaurants, spas, cosmetics, jewellery, department stores, shopping centres, mass distribution, food & beverage, travel retail, etc.

The Design Manager supervises a creative team. They carry out their projects in collaboration with a Creative Director. They are the cornerstone of our organization as they operate at the intersection of the creative, technical, commercial teams, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Create / Manage / Present
  • Enforce the agency’s standards of excellence (production quality)
  • The DM leads several projects simultaneously, from the design phase through to completion. They are the driving force that keeps the team moving forward.
  • Take and analyze the brief
  • Review resource planning and have it approved by the Creative Director (project timelines)
  • Raise team awareness about project profitability
  • Provide creative direction to the teams
  • Plan and lead creative reviews with the team and the Creative Director
  • Ensure steady project progress between each Creative Director review
  • Take part in producing deliverables
  • Contribute to defining the presentation document in collaboration with the Account Director and the Creative Director
  • Present to the client
  • Debrief the team after the presentation

  • Responsible for a creative team (AP, D, Architect, and depending on experience, a junior DM)
  • Recruit creative profiles with less than 3 years of experience
  • Train APs, Ds, Architects in production tools
  • Evaluate APs, Ds, Architects
  • Report to the creative committee on potential developments for team members (promotion, raise, bonus, training proposals)
  • Manage the team’s schedule
  • Directly supervise APs, Ds, Architects
  • Work in constant collaboration with Account Directors
  • Managed by the lead Creative Director
  • Report to the lead Creative Director
  • Evolution: Advance to the role of Creative Director
Client relationship & Hierarchy
  • Attend development meetings
  • Take the brief / Present the project to clients
  • Be proactive in upselling
  • Work in collaboration with Account Directors
  • Role is supervised by the lead Creative Director
