This position is based at Lignum Malta Ltd, in Sliema, Malta. The appropriate person will operate across multiple markets, committed to maintaining a resilient, cost‑effective, and sustainable supply chain. Based from our Lignum, Malta Ltd site, we are looking for a highly capable Chemical & Commodity Trader / Procurement Manager to manage the trading of urea, melamine, PMDI, and methanol. The role is critical for ensuring a reliable supply, optimising inventory returns, and maximising value from our stock holdings.

Main duties and responsibilities
Trading & Procurement Strategy
  • Develop and execute a procurement and trading strategy for urea, melamine, methanol, and related chemicals.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with global suppliers, producers, and traders.
  • Monitor market trends, geopolitical developments and price volatility to inform trading decisions (“buy cheap, sell high”).
  • Negotiate both long‑term contracts and spot deals to balance cost, risk, and supply stability.
Supply Chain Coordination
  • Work closely with internal logistics teams and external freight providers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Optimise shipping routes, freight costs, and inventory levels to support efficient global supply.
  • Align procurement activity with internal demand forecasts and production planning.
Risk & Contract Management
  • Build and maintain risk‑mitigation strategies for price fluctuations, supply disruption, and regulatory changes.
  • Ensure contractual agreements protect the company’s interests and maintain supply security.
  • Monitor supplier performance, quality compliance, and contract adherence.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
  • Conduct regular market analysis, benchmarking, and forecasting.
  • Produce insightful reports for senior management on trading performance, market outlook, and cost‑optimisation opportunities.
  • Lead cross‑functional initiatives to improve supply chain resilience.
Requirements
  • Qualified to Degree level at a minimum. However, extensive experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in commodity trading, procurement, or supply chain management—ideally in chemicals.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in market analysis, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and proven ability to manage global supplier relationships.
  • Familiarity with international trade regulations, contracts, and compliance.
  • Good commercial judgment and a results‑driven mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to prepare executive‑level reports.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.
