A humanitarian aid organization is seeking an experienced Area Manager based in Lyon, France. This role involves ensuring the successful execution of projects and management of teams in challenging humanitarian contexts. Qualifications

Job Context

This is a call for applicants interested into joining our pool of Operations and/or Area Managers in one of our 50 countries programmes around the world. Depending on the set up of the mission:

  • the Operations Manager is located in capital city
  • the Area Manager is located on a base in the field
Your Mission

Under the responsibility of the Program Director you as the Area Manager contribute within the country where you are based to the implementation of the mandate and the 10-year strategy of Handicap International. You ensure optimal quality and impact of the projects implemented in the country through a delegation system with appropriate control mechanisms. You share with all HI managers the responsibility of a sound management and successful functioning of the global organization through paradigm chain.

Your priorities will be to:

  • Structure the base in terms of means and process (teams premises coordination etc.)
  • Launch and develop emergency intervention in geographical perimeter while taking into consideration contextual changes
Management
  • The manager should embody HI values on a daily basis serve as a role model and guide the team by giving meaning to the strategy and translating it into operational objectives.
  • He/She should encourage innovation inter and intra-departmental exchanges and risk‑taking.
  • As an operational manager he/she organizes the teams work manages performance and solves problems.
  • As a coach develops teams skills ensures commitment and professionalism and complies with the code of conduct and expected behaviors.
Strategy and Steering
  • Contribute to the development of the programme operational strategy and to its implementation and annual monitoring.
  • Implement the project part of the Programmes Operational Strategy.
Standards and Expertise
  • Ensure deployment and compliance with HI global frameworks institutional policies and standards.
Operational Implementation
  • Ensure the sound management and monitoring of projects under his/her responsibility.
  • Keeping both potential opportunities and risks in mind contribute to the monitoring and analysis done by the line manager and propose mitigation measures where relevant.
  • Develop HI external influence (forums operational and strategic alliances etc.) and the external representation of the organization (events media) in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate the teams in his/her area.
  • Support the Director/Country Manager in monitoring security in their area and ensure adequate resources according to the context.

Requirements

YOUR PROFILE:

  • You have at least 3 years of professional experience in Area/Field/project management in challenging humanitarian contexts as well as experience working in complex and conflict affected regions.
  • You have a proven experience in managerial and security management experience.
  • You have experiences on donor relations, external relations, fundraising and strategic positioning.
  • You know how design and coordinate of complex emergency interventions.
  • You have strong and solid management and communication skills.
  • You are fluent in English (oral and written).
  • You show strong organizational skills you are autonomous and reactive.
  • You are willing to travel frequently and work in remote insecure areas.

The per diem and the hardship allowances will depend on the country of the mission.

Paid leaves: 25 days per year;

R&R: according to the level of the mission possible transport/package support.

Depending on the security level of the mission the position can be open to couple or family (as from 12 months of mission) with associated package.
