OVERVIEW

Design and implement the strategy and work plan of the UNESCO Business Council for Ethics of AI. The Coordinator will manage and expand the network, ensuring implementation of the Recommendation and participation in key initiatives such as the AI Governance Disclosure Initiative (UNESCO‑Thomson Reuters). The role reports to the Assistant Director‑General of the Social and Human Sciences Sector (ADG/SHS) and is supervised by the Head of the Ethics and AI Section.

SCOPE OF WORK
  • Strategic planning: Define and execute the Council’s strategy, new membership funding, and key activities, promoting participation in initiatives such as the AI Governance Disclosure Initiative.
  • Work plan implementation: Deliver customized work plans for individual members or subgroups to ensure engagement and impact.
  • Collaborative support: Develop exchange and in‑kind support programs, enabling company staff to work with UNESCO toward the Recommendation’s implementation.
  • Membership expansion: Drive growth of the Council’s membership, targeting companies across sectors, and set yearly goals in coordination with ADG/SHS.
  • Strategic documents and products: Produce knowledge and research products and strategic documents for member companies and the ADG office.
  • Mission support: Support ADG bilaterals and SHS teams in official missions and UNESCO forums.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years in the private sector, multilateral/international bodies, or economic policy sectors.
  • Experience in data governance and emerging technologies in public policy.
  • Experience coordinating business networks and working groups within multilateral settings.
  • Experience in regulation, economic analysis, and technology within the private sector.
Education
  • University degree in Economics, Law, or Engineering with a strong background in digital economy, artificial intelligence, sustainability and social responsibility.
  • Post‑graduate degree in public policy, economics or management, focused on social issues.
Languages
  • Advanced proficiency in English. Knowledge of another UN language is valued.
Skills
  • Teamwork and multicultural communication skills.
