A leading cloud service provider is seeking experienced systems engineers for their AWS Managed Operations team to build high-availability services exclusively for EU customers. Responsibilities include overseeing the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), collaborating on service improvements, and leading automation efforts. Candidates must be experts in systems engineering, scripting, and have a solid understanding of networking and Linux. This full-time position is based in Madrid, Spain, and offers relocation support for EU residents.

Formación

About the Role

AWS is set to launch its inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a major step in utility computing (UC). The AWS Managed Operations team is looking for experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to build and lead teams that deliver high‑availability AWS services—including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock—exclusively for EU customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the launch of ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams.
  • Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day‑to‑day operations, ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of ESC.
  • Lead the development, test, and deployment of scripts and automation to support operational excellence.
  • Participate in 24×7 on‑call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out of hours.
  • Root‑cause issues, maintain system resilience, and drive fault‑tolerance.
  • Provide constructive feedback on change‑management documents and address operational backlog.
  • Educate and share insights on the complexities of ESC with service teams.
Eligibility & Experience Requirements
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU.
  • Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
  • Experience scripting in languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
  • Solid understanding of Linux and networking, with ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems affecting performance, reliability, or availability.
  • Experience with monitoring frameworks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, or similar).
  • Experience actively mentoring junior engineers and leading cross‑organizational team efforts.
  • Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems.
  • Experience operating 24×7 high‑availability distributed software applications and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
