We are looking to hire a Staff DevOps Engineer in the Service Infrastructure team. This is a mission-critical role focused on ensuring our large-scale infrastructure systems are healthy, automated, and designed to scale. You will partner closely with the product and platform engineering teams to maintain high availability and reliability SLAs for Affirm services. We seek engineers with strong coding or operations backgrounds and a passion for scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure, who pride themselves on creating self-healing, secure, and resilient systems.

What you’ll do

• Analyze and review internal Affirm applications to design and implement improvements.
• Ensure high availability of our cloud infrastructure.
• Optimize Kubernetes clusters and resources.
• Manage infrastructure using best practices of infrastructure as code.
• Secure business continuity and compliance through resilient infrastructure.
• Provide self-service solutions to streamline engineering workflows.
• Write high-quality, testable, and maintainable code that serves as best practice templates.
• Review code and designs, providing constructive feedback to meet quality standards.
• Design and expand monitoring and visibility systems to ensure service stability.
• Guide product development teams on performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Provide daily and on-call support to engineering teams.
• Optimize systems and code for cost efficiency, security, and compliance.
• Participate in on-call rotation as a requirement.

What we look for

• At least 9 years of industry experience, including 5+ years in DevOps roles.
• Proven coding or scripting skills, preferably in Python, Golang, or Kotlin.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes.
• Experience with public cloud providers, preferably AWS.
• Design and development of highly available systems (99.999%+ SLA).
• Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
• Mentoring and enabling other engineers.
• Extensive knowledge of monitoring solutions like Prometheus and ELK.
• Cost management skills.
• Experience in coaching, public speaking, and community management.

Additional skills

• Developing multi-region cloud solutions.
• Solid experience with cloud networking, both in cloud and within Kubernetes.
• Experience with databases and optimizing database usage within infrastructure.
• Good knowledge of SDLC tooling, including CI/CD systems, artifact, and container repositories.

Base Pay Grade - P

Equity Grade - 6

Employees typically start at the beginning of the pay range. Affirm offers a transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include stipends for health, wellness, tech spending, and benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents. Equity rewards may also be available.

ESP base pay range per year: €101,000 - €131,000
