Job Purpose

The Crew Optimization Analyst supports the continuous development, operation, and improvement of Vueling’s crew optimization environment. Working closely with the Crew Optimization Supervisor, this role contributes to the configuration, execution, and analysis of Jeppesen optimization tools to help deliver efficient, compliant, and high-quality rosters. The position plays a key part in validating optimization inputs and outputs, identifying improvement opportunities, performing testing, and generating insights through data analysis. The Analyst also supports cross‑functional collaboration and contributes to increasing automation, enhancing optimization performance, and driving continuous improvement across all crew planning processes.

Main Accountabilities
Main Responsibilities – Tasks
Optimization Execution & System Support
  • Run and monitor daily optimization processes in Jeppesen (Pairing, Rostering, and other modules as applicable).
  • Ensure data integrity and correct configuration of rules, constraints, and parameters in every optimization cycle.
  • Validate optimization results, identify anomalies, and propose corrective adjustments.
Model Validation & Testing
  • Support the testing and calibration of optimization models and parameters to ensure accuracy, robustness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in validation cycles for new releases, rule updates, and system enhancements.
  • Document test results, issues, and recommended improvements.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Analyze optimization KPIs (efficiency, robustness, cost drivers, quality‑of‑life metrics).
  • Deliver data‑driven insights to improve roster quality, productivity, and cost performance.
Continuous Improvement & System Enhancement
  • Identify opportunities to refine rules, cost structures, stability settings, and other optimization logic.
  • Support implementation of improvements with internal IT teams, Jeppesen, and external partners.
  • Contribute ideas and experimentation for new optimization methods, automation approaches, and digital enhancements.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Crew Rostering Planners, Manpower Planning, Crew Tracking, and Human Factors team to ensure alignment and consistency in planning processes.
  • Support communication and training related to system changes, optimization impacts, and best practices.
  • Assist the Supervisor in preparing materials for stakeholders and management reviews.
Main Relationships
  • Internal: Crew Rostering, Crew Tracking, Strategy team, Tech, Safety.
  • External: Jeppesen, consultants, data providers.
Education
  • Degree in Engineering.
  • Specialization or coursework in Optimization, Data Analytics, Operations Research, or similar is a plus.
Experience
  • Experience in airline Crew Planning, Operations, Data Analytics or similar fields is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous exposure to Jeppesen Crew Rostering and/or Pairing tools is highly valued.
  • Hands‑on experience in data analysis (Excel, SQL, Power BI or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting system testing, model validation, or process improvement initiatives is a plus.
Competencies
  • Analytical & Problem‑Solving Skills: Comfortable working with complex datasets, interpreting optimization outputs, and identifying root causes.
  • Technical Orientation: Understanding of optimization principles, crew management rules, and data processing.
  • Detail Orientation: Strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and data quality.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work closely with multiple departments and explain analytical findings clearly.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Proactive in spotting inefficiencies and proposing enhancements.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast‑paced operational environment with frequent changes.
