Construction Coordinator
POSITION DEFINITION: Construction Coordinator (Piping & Mechanical)
PLACE AND COUNTRY OF WORK: Air Liquide, Huelva Plant – Spain
Responsible for managing construction activities of industrial production facilities during delivery phase, from mobilization to final handover to production operations. Ensure compliance with contractual documentation, schedule, Company procedures and plans.
Main Responsibilities & Key Activities
- During delivery phase, directly oversee construction activities related to structural, mechanical, piping, pipeline work packages and E&I scope, ensuring execution per contractual documents, schedule, Company procedures.
- Follow up construction activities (prefabrication, erection, pre-commissioning), monitor progress and quality via daily site visits and/or contractor fabrication shop visits.
- Assist Project Manager and Project Engineer in reviewing construction documentation submitted by contractors (Approved for Construction drawings such as ISOs, P&IDs, construction procedures/method statements, execution plans and schedules).
- Provide technical construction assistance for timely resolution of technical construction issues and quality anomalies/nonconformity at site.
- Interface with engineering and procurement departments to ensure timely delivery of documentation and material.
- Ensure project quality plan and relevant Inspection Test Plan implementation during construction and issuing relevant quality control reports.
- Coordinate contractors’ pre-commissioning activities and guarantee mechanical completion on time, with no punch list items affecting commissioning and start-up.
- Coordinate with site HSE management team for safe work delivery, ensuring HSEQ plant and site requirements implementation and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate with Plant Production Manager and contractors of different work packages to enable smooth execution and avoid critical simultaneous operations.
- Participate in HSE coordination meetings and manage work permit approvals.
- Organize and lead construction coordination meetings with contractors and participate in projects’ meetings as required.
- On daily/weekly basis, report status of construction activities and relevant progress to Project Management team, highlighting critical issues and proposing corrective actions.
Experience & Competencies
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction management/coordination activities for piping and mechanical work packages.
- Extensive experience in construction supervisory activities (10 years).
- Knowledge of industrial and/or oil & gas plants.
- Knowledge of construction prefabrication, erection, pre-commissioning, and commissioning methodologies and processes.
- Knowledge of quality controls during construction.
- Knowledge of HSE risks during construction.
- Knowledge of Spanish norms and regulations about site construction works and safety.
- Knowledge of Permit to works procedures.
- Conversant with industrial plant standards (e.g., API, ASME, PED, etc.).
Qualifications
- Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
