A leading cloud technology company is seeking an experienced Cloud-Edge Systems Engineer Advisor. This remote role involves providing technical support and guidance on security, resilience, and sustainability for cloud-edge solutions. Since 2019, and thanks to the support from the European Commission, OpenNebula Systems has been leading the edge computing innovation in Europe, investing heavily in research and open source development, and playing a key role in strategic EU initiatives such as the IPCEI‑CIS and the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud”.

Objective

We are seeking experienced Cloud‑Edge Systems Engineer Advisor to provide guidance, technical support, and validation throughout the design, implementation, and operational phases of the project. This role is advisory in nature, focused on providing expert input on the analysis, design, deployment, validation, and demonstration of cloud‑edge solutions, with particular focus on security, resilience, and sustainability aspects. You will collaborate with software engineers, system architects, and project leads to ensure alignment with project objectives.

Scope

Activities in WP3 Management Layer for the Cloud‑Edge Continuum of IPCEI‑CIS ONEnextgen Project (UNICO IPCEI‑2023‑003).

Services
  • Provide expert guidance on the security and sustainability aspects for architecture and lifecycle management of cloud‑edge systems across heterogeneous environments and cluster types (e.g., low‑resource, 5G, high‑performance).
  • Advise on the design and validation of the management layer for the DC–Cloud–Edge continuum within ONEnextgen.
  • Support the documentation and structuring of technical deliverables, ensuring they meet quality, coherence, and interoperability standards.
  • Assist in the review and refinement of deployment scenarios, integration workflows, and performance considerations related to multi‑vendor, distributed infrastructures.
  • Offer technical input on Release Notes, Use Case implementations, and infrastructure blueprints, ensuring they accurately reflect system behavior and project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of emerging technologies and architectural decisions in coordination with product and engineering teams.
  • Support knowledge transfer by promoting standardized approaches to the description and representation of technical solutions.
  • Provide feedback and support for collaboration activities with other IPCEI‑CIS partners and ecosystem stakeholders.
Duration

From January 16, 2026 to June 30, 2026 (approximately 5 months).

Location

Remote (occasionally F2F coordination meetings).

Budget

Maximum hourly rate is 30 EUR (full price, including all costs and excluding VAT).

Maximum work hours per year is 1,800.

The maximum estimated cost is 4,500.00€ per month, and a total of 22,500.00€.

Technical Specifications

Contractors must demonstrate the following requirements:

  • +5 years of hands‑on experience as systems architect in cloud computing management, orchestration, security and monitoring.
Criteria

Eligible contractors will be prioritized according to the following criteria:

  • Price: Cost per hour.
  • Education: Bachelor, Master or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional Experience: Number of years of experience in projects to improve cloud‑edge systems deployment and operation.
Administrative Specifications

Before the signature of the contract, the successful selected contractor will be requested to provide the following certificates:

  • Positive certificate, issued by the local Social Security Authority, to the effect that the contractor is up‑to‑date in compliance with its Social Security obligations; or similar document according to the law of the country in which the contractor is established.
  • Positive certificate, issued by the local Tax Authority, to the effect that the contractor is up‑to‑date in compliance with its tax obligations; or similar document according to the law of the country in which the contractor is established.
  • Proof of census registration.
  • Declaration of Commitment Regarding the Implementation of Actions under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR) (no. 4).
  • Self‑Declaration of Compliance with Article 29 of Law 38/2003, of 17 November, General Grants Law (no. 5).
  • Declaration of Data Transfer and Processing in Relation to the Execution of Actions under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR) (no. 6).
  • Authorization to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Public Service to Obtain from the Competent Authorities Data Relating to Census Status, Tax Obligations, Social Security, and Other Data Provided in Relation to the Execution of Actions under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR). (no. 7)

The successful selected contractor will be given a two‑weeks period after the notification of the award to provide the above‑mentioned documents.
