POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Nikon SLM Solutions has a wide range of exciting R&D projects that are scalable within a student master thesis. We are looking for a self-motivated, highly skilled student who is in the final phase of their master studies. Nikon SLM Solutions will provide comprehensive on-the-job training.

• Investigate the SLM process to determine how to build specific challenging geometries and materials
• Material characterization using Computed Tomography (CT) and correlation of defects with their root causes
• Automation of vision-based detection and analysis of CT images through image processing tools
• Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment on challenging projects in SLM process and material parameter development
• Additional material characterization such as mechanical properties, density analysis, microstructural investigations, SEM, EBSD chemical analysis, fracture surface analysis, and roughness investigations
• Prepare detailed reports of experiments for internal use and write a comprehensive research report in the master thesis. There may be opportunities to author an external white paper depending on the research topic.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Aerospace) or Physics with a focus on LPBF
• Prior experience with CAM software (e.g., Magics, Build Processor, Netfabb, NX) is beneficial
• Scientific research knowledge, programming, and analytical skills
• Understanding of laser and powder bed interaction concerning process stability and capabilities
• Basic material characterization skills
