Join our Research and Development department "Mechanical Design": We are responsible for the conception, design, and provision of highly precise mechatronic systems for optical movements capable of working under ultra clean vacuum, specialized test stands, handling, transport & setup processes and integration processes, taking into account the highest cleanliness requirements. As part of the design process, we create technical drawings and documentation, support series production and integration processes in clean rooms, establish assembly procedures in virtual reality and enforce the highest cleanliness requirements in every step to guarantee long-term hardware reliability. For our production site in Zurich, we are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Materials Engineer for Cleanliness to be involved in the development and series manufacturing of semiconductor lithography equipment. The individual will be integrated into the R&D department of Carl Zeiss SMT Switzerland as a member of the current three-person Cleanliness Engineering Team and will have the opportunity to deeply engage with the appropriate material selection for the necessary longevity of our products, including supplier contacts.

• main contact person for material-specific issues affecting selection, cleanability, contamination control, storage, and failure modes of materials
• optimization of the entire manufacturing chain of semiconductor lithography equipment regarding compliance with cleanliness requirements and enhancement of materials reliability
• enforcement, verification, and continuous improvement of cleanliness and contamination control in cleanrooms and at suppliers of parts (qualification of materials and manufacturing processes, training of personnel, regular inspections and analysis of products, cleanroom materials and cleanroom facilities)
• collaboration with project stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks related to cleanliness and materials failures
• troubleshooting of non-conformities, root cause analysis, risk assessment, data interpretation and implementation of corrective measures

Requirements include a completed degree in Materials Science or a similar field; PhD welcome, previous experience in metallurgy, electroless nickel-phosphorus plating, corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement protection of metals, flexible electronics, industries with high cleanliness standards, and language skills in English (C1) and German (B2). Willingness to work on-site in cleanrooms 80% of the time is necessary.
