The successful candidate will join the team led by Dr. Marija Gredić and investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying pathological changes in COPD and the role of innate immunity in pulmonary vascular alterations associated with this disease. This work will consist of planning, performing and troubleshooting experiments, and preparation of abstracts and manuscripts for peer-review journals. The candidate will be responsible to ensure the conduct and compliance of research studies according to good research practice, and will contribute to maintain day-to-day laboratory working efficiency. Experimental work will include at least two of the following areas:

• Planning and daily care about one of our pre-clinical disease models, and related physiological and histological examinations of emphysema and pulmonary hypertension
• Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analyses of immune cell phenotypes related to development of COPD and imaging of cells and tissues using confocal microscopy
• Molecular and functional studies in primary cells cultures, tissue cultures or explanted organs
• Analyses of multi-omics data sets

• Labs with state-of-the-art technologies and opportunity to learn and independently perform the number of in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro techniques

• Ph.D. stipendium/3 years full time starting March 2026, with possible extension

• Master’s degree or equivalent in life sciences (biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology), or a degree in human or veterinary medicine
• Good command of English and good communication skills
• A high degree of responsibility, motivation, commitment and interest in scientific work
• Previous laboratory experience (cell culture, molecular biology or handling rodents). Experience in the techniques related to the position is considered an advantage
