In the Faculty VI – Spatial and Environmental Sciences – at Trier University, the following permanent position is to be filled as soon as possible with lifelong civil servant status:

W3-Professor in Geography and its Didactics (LBesG) (m/w/d)

The future holder of the position should have a proven track record in research and teaching in geography didactics, representing the whole breadth of the field. Duties of the professorship include subject-specific didactic training in education degree programs at the Bachelor and Master level (B.Ed., M.Ed.) aimed at teaching geography in primary and secondary schools. Teaching tasks also include subject-specific geography education.

She/he has extensive knowledge in empirical didactic research as relevant to the geographic discipline in a school context. Subject expertise is demonstrated by visible publication and research activity and successful acquisition of external funding.A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research activities in cooperation with colleagues in geography, biology and its didactics, biology and environmental sciences within the faculty is expected. A substantive focus in the area of education for sustainable development and/or global change is desired.

Trier University seeks to foster coherence in teacher training, especially between subject didactics, subject sciences and educational sciences. The successful applicant should be able to make a contribution to the further development and harmonization of teacher training at the University. Experience in academic self-administration is also expected.

The official duties are defined by § 48 Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate (HochSchG). The requirements for employment, i.e., proof of pedagogical suitability and excellent scientific achievements, are defined by § 49 HochSchG. The successful applicant is expected to be able to teach courses in German. As the advertised position entails didactic tasks in teacher training, applicants should provide proof of three years of applicable school experience (cf. § 49 Para. 3 Clause 1 HochSchG). Reference is made to Section 50 (5) sentences 5 and 6 of the Higher Education Act. Employment as a salaried employee might be possible should the requirements for civil service status not be met.
