Senior Mechanical Engineer Data Centre

Data Centres are crucial components of today’s infrastructure, supporting business and public services. Arup’s international and multidisciplinary team in Frankfurt designs innovative and energy-efficient data centres to meet performance, cost-efficiency, and sustainability goals.

The Opportunity

Join our international and multidisciplinary team of passionate design engineers to create high-quality, sustainable, and innovative data centre structures. You will work on medium to large-scale mission-critical projects, covering all stages of design—from concept to construction supervision and handover.

Responsibilities
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team of architects, advisors & engineers with other experts.
  • Lead the design of mechanical systems (Cooling, HVAC, PH, Fire Fighting, Diesel supply systems) on medium to large-scale mission-critical projects through all design stages from Concept to Construction Supervision and Handover.
  • Lead the preparation and review of design deliverables.
  • Lead projects and collaborate with data centre clients to deliver quality work that meets their needs.
  • Present technical content for review by technical and non-technical audiences; stay informed on industry trends and standard methodologies.
  • Coordinate with internal and external project stakeholders including other disciplines, authorities, public service providers and international clients.
  • Connect solutions/ideas to the bigger project and client goals.
  • Provide timely feedback and recognition to others.
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at local, regional, and global levels.
Qualifications
  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience designing mission-critical mechanical systems for industrial facilities; experience with Data Centers is a plus.
  • Ability to manage project deliverables and budgets while prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of relevant German codes and industry standards.
  • Experience in designing different cooling solutions.
  • Familiarity with EEFG requirements, PUE/WUE calculations.
  • Experience with Technical Due Diligence projects.
  • Understanding of Tier Levels (UI, TUEV IT) and SPOF Analysis.
  • Experience with 3D BIM software – Revit MEP.
  • Fluent in English; German proficiency preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team-based work.
  • Passion for quality, sustainability, and innovation.
