Overview

Research Associate (m/f/d) / Wissenschaftliche_r Mitarbeiter_in (m/w/d). Institute of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering. Remuneration: EG 13 TV-L. Start of employment: January 1st 2026. Application deadline: October 1st 2025. Scope: full time, fixed term until December 31st 2028. The Institute of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering deals with knowledge-based scaling of bioprocesses and multi-scale bioprocess characterization, as well as the development of robust bioprocesses with microorganisms and in cell culture applications. Another focus is the investigation of single cell physiology and population heterogeneities in bioprocesses using multiple reporter strains. In the course of the advertised Ph.D. position, multicellularity effects induced during recombinant protein production in bioprocesses of different industrially relevant production hosts will be investigated.

Responsibilities
  • Cultivation of different industrially relevant cellular production hosts in bioreactors across bioprocess scales
  • In-depth analysis of cell physiology at single cell and population level
  • Development of advanced fluorescence-activated cell sorting methods for further cellular characterisation with omics methods
  • Mathematical evaluation of experimental data and basic modeling
Qualifications
  • Completed scientific university studies, in particular in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering or Biology
Required Knowledge And Personal Skills
  • Practical experience in cell culture processes in bioreactors at laboratory scale, additionally in the best case also microbial cultivation
  • Practical knowledge in analysis of bioprocess samples on single cell and population level
  • Ideally experience in flow cytometry analysis and sorting
  • Friendly, open-minded personality and great team player
  • Willingness to participate in supervision of lab courses
