Position : Experienced ASIC / SoC Development Engineer (Individual Contributor)

Location : Germany

Full Time / Permanent : Office based Hybrid 3 days in the office (flexible).

Degree level : Master Degree or PhD in Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Telecommunication Engineering, or similar

As an ASIC engineer responsible for the architecture and development of sub-micron devices, your role demands a blend of technical expertise and soft skills. Our client anticipates the utmost quality in your work output. Your responsibilities will involve collaborating within an international development team, operating within a culture of autonomy and individual accountability.

Together, you will be constructing system-on-chip devices tailored for coherent transmission systems. We seek an ASIC generalist proficient in executing all necessary tasks throughout the device development cycle.

Responsibilities:

1. Architect, specify, design, and verify ASICs and ASIC design blocks for coherent transmission systems, focusing on data transmission and error correction, including testbench development (VHDL / Verilog / SystemVerilog / UVM) and formal verification of design results.
2. Investigate and optimize power consumption by leveraging latest CMOS technology nodes and applying dedicated power analysis tools and techniques.
3. Select available intellectual properties to be integrated into our design and communicate with third-party IP suppliers.
4. Collaborate with systems engineering, hardware, software, and firmware development teams across international locations.
5. Bring up and validate ASICs and optical modules in the lab.

Required Skills:

1. Strong knowledge and practical experience in ASIC and FPGA design and verification, utilizing tools from Synopsys, Mentor, Cadence, and related design languages (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog), script programming (TCL, Python), and development environments.
2. Experience with design verification methodologies (e.g., UVM) and formal verification techniques (e.g., LEC, CDC, PDV), as well as use of hardware emulators.
3. Basic understanding of firmware development, software structures, and methods (C / C++), including development of drivers and APIs for design blocks.
4. Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (required) and German (expected), with a strong interest in collaborating with international partners.

Beneficial additional knowledge includes:

1. Understanding of coherent optical transmission systems, their components, transmission theory, algorithms, forward error correction, and modulation formats.
2. Basic knowledge of circuit pack design and functionality.
3. Familiarity with optical transmission standards like OIF, IEEE, ITU-T.
4. Experience in inter-disciplinary and inter-cultural collaboration.
