A leading environmental organization is seeking a dynamic Program Manager to lead their Agroforestry Program, focusing on achieving programmatic impact goals and managing relationships with landowners and partners. Candidates should possess strong leadership and communication skills, along with a background in forestry or related fields. This role involves travel and may require fieldwork in rugged terrain.
Location: Virtual, based in Northeastern Tennessee
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Program Manager to lead ACE’s Agroforestry Program. The candidate will be responsible for tracking and achieving programmatic impact goals, overseeing subcontractors, and overseeing program enrollment through effective relationship building with landowners, program outreach, budgeting, contracting, and partnership development.
Key Responsibilities:
● Primary liaison and manager for the ACE Agroforestry Program, responsible for meeting impact goals, preliminary site evaluations, landowner relationships, contractual and budgetary items, and planting and maintenance logistics.
● Plan and mobilize stakeholder engagement to organize programmatic goals and details, collecting data and organizing meetings with landowners, partners and community organizations to guide a robust programmatic offering
● Develops and maintains strong relationships with contractors and partners
● Lead program marketing efforts to elevate engagement among landowners, partners and the community
● Support agroforestry planting plans with landowner input and oversee carbon modeling. Perform site specific evaluations for planting plans, including deep assessment of each site’s condition.
● Identify funding opportunities and manage grant proposals to secure additional resources, with the support of staff.
● Cultivate further stakeholder and organizational partnerships to further program impact
● Represent the program and organization at conferences, workshops and community events
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, forestry, natural resource management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
● Minimum of 5-7 of experience forestry, agroforestry, reforestation or ecological restoration.
● Experience managing contractors from RFP to completion
● Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; has the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including landowners, partners, and community organizations.
● Has strong knowledge of southern Appalachian forests, forest management methods, resource management, agricultural treatments, basic soil science, plant and tree identification
● Willingness to travel frequently (est. 30-50 days/year) and perform occasional field work in remote and rugged terrain.
● Will require the use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursements. Has clean drivers license record and history.
● Has demonstrated successful experience working remotely.
● Is organized and prefers working independently, yet very comfortable working with a small but mighty team.
