Job Summary:

The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) seeks an Academic Clinician to join our team. We seek candidates for this position in Hematologic malignancies, specifically lymphoma with an interest in cancer research focus to join our faculty. This is an opportunity on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track or Clinician Teacher (CT) track, for prospects seeking an Associate Professor or Assistant Professor position. An interest in cellular therapy and therapeutic clinical trials is desired. An interest in health services research is also considered. Priority areas include genomics, precision medicine and cancer therapeutics.

The Division of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Care at UW-Madison includes more than 60 faculty, 30 Advanced Practice Providers, and 19 Fellows. The division's faculty leads cutting-edge basic, translational and clinical research programs. This research encompasses cancer biology, cancer prevention, screening and treatment, as well as survivorship and palliative care for patients impacted by solid tumors, benign and malignant hematologic conditions and those requiring stem cell transplant or cellular therapies.

The successful candidate will join a world-class institution that encourages, values, and supports interdisciplinary basic, clinical and population health research, and attracts scholars and students from around the world. The successful candidate will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members, advanced practice providers and other clinical and administrative staff.


Responsibilities:

For Clinical Teacher (CT) position - Provide inpatient and outpatient clinic attending services at UW Hospitals and Clinics locations in Madison and at additional sites within the region. Responsibilities will also include providing clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as clinical research endeavors.

For CHS position - Provide inpatient and outpatient clinic attending services at UW Hospitals and Clinics locations in Madison. Responsibilities will also include providing clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as clinical research endeavors. Opportunities exist for pursuit of clinical research in candidate's area/s of interest. The candidate will lead dedicated disease-specific research staff and have access to substantial programmatic research funds. Clinical research is conducted in the UWCCC by 18 multi-disciplinary Disease Oriented Teams and is supported by the UWCCC Clinical Research Office. Over 170 UWCCC investigators regularly enroll patients to therapeutic intervention trials at our two UWCCC clinical sites. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure independent funding to continue/develop their research.

UW is an affiliate member of the BMT Clinical Trials Network and a member of the NCCN, ECOG- ACRIN, Alliance, BigTen Cancer Research Consortium, Wisconsin Oncology Network (WON) and Wisconsin Association of Hematology and Oncology (WAHO).

Responsibilities of the CHS candidate will include:

- 60-65% direct patient care at UW Health approved locations, including ambulatory, inpatient
and consult service attending.
- 35-40% academic time for research activities and/or for educational and other scholarly activities, which includes pro-actively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.

Administrative duties including committees and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the successful candidate.

The candidate will have also access to many shared resources and opportunities to collaborate with basic, translational and clinical researchers at the NCI-designated UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), the VA Hospital and throughout the UW-Madison campus. Administrative duties including e-Consults, committees and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will participate in administrative, and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members, advanced practice providers and other clinical and administrative staff.

Education:

MD, DO or equivalent


Qualifications:

Completed accredited hematology or hematology/medical oncology fellowship training. Fellows are welcome to apply.

Experience in clinical, basic science or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and evidence of excellence in teaching.

For appointment at Associate Professor (CHS) track or Clinical Associate Professor (CT) track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate Professor on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track or the Clinician Teacher (CT) track.


License/Certification:

Required
ABIM - American Board of Internal Medicine Certification
Must be BE/BC by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Must have completed an accredited fellowship training program in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Total compensation targets AAMC benchmarks by rank.
