Qualifications

Job description
The Position

This opportunity is available to students currently enrolled in a college diploma or university degree program in mechanical or manufacturing engineering. Co-op placements are offered for either an eight-month term commencing in the Winter semester or a four-month term beginning in the Fall semester. The application deadline for Winter placements is October 1st, and for Fall placements is May 1st. We encourage interested candidates to apply early to ensure full consideration.

In this role the successful candidate will be primarily supporting engineers to develop new products and support existing products. Will spend a significant portion of their time designing and solid modeling using SolidWorks. Will gain experience in the product development process from concept to completion, including prototyping and testing. Will also gain experience relative to engineering records keeping, such as ECNs, drawings and BOMs. Will gain experience in application of theory to practice such as FEA stress analysis to help determine design and specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, test and validate sheet metal parts and assemblies for new or existing products
  • Work closely with product engineers, manufacturing engineers, and product team members to create and maintain drawings and Bill of Materials needed to manufacture products.
  • Solve problems and develop those solutions for manufacturability
  • Work closely with product engineers to determine engineering specifications required for purchased and manufactured products.
  • Create solid models (SolidWorks) and CAD support to product engineers.
  • Develop documents such as installation instructions and renderings for product support.
  • Could include interaction with customers such as meetings, communications, site visits, and installations
  • Could include hands-on building and testing of prototypes

Health & Safety Employee Responsibilities:

  • Work in compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts
  • Report defect in any equipment or protective device
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks
  • Attend all required health, safety and environmental training
  • Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
Qualifications
  • Working towards a College diploma or University degree in a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering related discipline
  • Excellent SolidWorks and Excel skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-motivated individual who takes initiative
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
  • Sheet metal and/or mechanical assembly experience an asset
