Duties
As part of the Ecological Integrity Monitoring team, you will support a wide range of projects that aim to maintain or improve ecological integrity and support species at risk recovery throughout Jasper National Park. The Resource Management Officer II delivers, leads and supervises applied science, monitoring and active management projects. In this role, you will:

1. Lead ecological integrity monitoring projects by collecting and analyzing data, developing and managing databases and preparing reports.
2. Organize active management projects aimed at improving ecological integrity or helping to recover species at risk.
3. Supervise ecological integrity monitoring staff and students and provide guidance to volunteers.
4. Coordinate projects and team schedules to access remote monitoring and restoration sites.
5. Assist in organizing training to support backcountry travel skills and abilities for the team.
6. Collect data by traveling in the remote backcountry on physically-demanding trips.

Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas, and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process
This process will be used to fill one indeterminate position in Jasper, Alberta. The results of this process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions in Jasper National Park.

Essential Qualifications
Education: Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

Experience: Experience in the remote wilderness environment, leading field research projects, making recommendations regarding research project design, and preparing technical/scientific reports.

Knowledge: Methodology for scientific testing and data collection, and environmental and natural sciences theories and principles.

Abilities: Follow protocols for data collection, conduct analysis, coordinate field work, and prepare scientific reports.

Personal Suitability: Exercises sound judgement; Shares Parks Canada’s vision; Communicates effectively.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance. Possession and maintenance of a valid class 5 driver's license.
