How You Will Contribute :
The Wavelogic family of products is widely used in Ciena's optical fiber transmission solutions and is a key contributor to Ciena's success in the telecommunications industry. Successful candidates will join a vibrant team with over 30 years of experience in high-speed circuits used in broadband fiber-optic modems. This team pioneered the world’s first high-speed DAC and ADC analog macros, ushering in the era of coherent fiber-optic product solutions.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Analog Engineering, as a Senior Analog Circuit Design Engineer/Architect, you will seek novel ways to advance our designs, including lower power, higher performance, more compact implementation, and higher baud rates by leveraging advanced CMOS and/or BiCMOS technologies. Your role will be hands-on, architecting and leading feasibility studies within a larger team responsible for full mixed-signal IP block solutions integrated into the Wavelogic products. These analog macros include designing electrical interface-facing DAC and ADC-based SERDES solutions for 112G and 224G, optical-line-facing high-speed DAC and ADC circuits interfacing with optical modulators and detectors, transimpedance amplifiers, modulator driver circuits, and critical precision analog circuits for control and monitoring functions.
In this role :
You will architect circuit solutions and perform feasibility assessments to recommend optimal solutions, considering tradeoffs and collaborating with system teams to define circuit requirements.
You will have a good understanding of system tradeoffs and be proficient enough in the overall problem to meet market or customer objectives.
You will regularly report on your progress, participate in team meetings, share experiences, and produce clear presentations for senior management.
You will interact closely with optical design, packaging, DSP, and system design teams.
What Does Ciena Expect of You :
Sense of urgency and accountability — prioritizing customer needs and timely delivery.
Detail-oriented — delivering objectives through meticulous work.
Problem solver — analyzing and solving complex technical problems using engineering principles.
Commitment to learning — staying updated on technological developments and sharing knowledge.
The Must Haves :
Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related scientific field at BEng/BSc, MEng/MSc, or PhD level.
At least 10 years of industrial experience as a high-speed analog circuit architect, with knowledge of emerging BiCMOS and CMOS technologies.
Proficiency with design tools from Cadence, Mentor, and Synopsys (e.g., Virtuoso, Calibre, STAR-RC, MMSIM).
Motivated self-starter, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
Excellent organizational, written, and oral (English) interpersonal skills.
Successful track record of delivering analog circuit products based on innovative architectures.
Ability to address complex technical problems, balancing tradeoffs across domains to meet customer needs.
Assets :
Experience in team leadership within an analog macro design group.
Experience considering business and economic factors in solutions.
Experience estimating risks and design efforts for new architectures.
Architect or system design experience for complex analog macro-IP solutions using MATLAB and/or C++.
