EY’s Business Tax Incentives (BTI) team, part of our Business Tax Services practice, specializes in credits and grants related to discretionary incentives, sustainability, capital investments, and scientific research and experimental development (SRED). We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit, science, and technology professionals working with companies of all sizes across various industries to maximize their tax benefits and meet their business objectives. We’re seeking an experienced Manager with a software development or IT background to provide advisory services to our Ontario clients.

As a Business Tax Incentives IT Manager, you will lead a team and work with clients ranging from entrepreneurs to public corporations to evaluate and prepare their SRED claims. Leveraging your understanding of web technologies and software architectures, you will lead and develop a team of engineers and data scientists to deliver value. This involves meeting with CTOs, Chief Architects, and Software Developers to assess eligibility, determine claim amounts, and write technical project descriptions detailing innovation and development activities. You will discuss prototypes, software architectures, algorithms, and frameworks. This role is ideal for someone with a Computer Science degree and relevant experience who wants to expand into the business and financial aspects of technology.

Core elements of the role include

• Meeting with clients to identify opportunities for claiming SRED in fields like software development, cybersecurity, wireless networks, data analytics, defense, robotics, and AI.
• Mentoring and managing Tax Staff and Senior Tax Staff.
• Preparing and reviewing detailed project descriptions for R&D activities.
• Leading and assisting with reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
• Managing client expectations, workflow, and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• An MBA is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of web technologies, cloud computing, programming languages, and telecommunications.
• Experience with the SRED program is highly preferred.
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver quality work on time.
