Why this role is important?
Category Assistant

We are searching for a Category Assistant for the "Household Desk". Reporting directly to the Category Director, the incumbent supports all product and financial processes associated with category management and assists in the general administration and management of categories and suppliers. The incumbent maintains the data for the flyers and all supporting documents, data retrieval and analysis for planograms, category reviews, and supplier meetings.

What You'll Do
  • Enter, maintain and monitor all critical information including key sales and financial data to prepare and analyze weekly sales reports.
  • Complete all required forms including product information form and vendor profile form to ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Work with procurement teams to ensure all data is maintained accurately across the SAP and CPMS systems.
  • Prepare and submit worksheets for flyers, various merchandising plans and seasonal spreadsheets to include accurate estimates, sales, deal, retail and shelf-life information.
  • Proof and edit flyer and other seasonal marketing initiatives to ensure accuracy and make adjustments as required.
  • Provide support to Marketing Call Centre to resolve issues or concerns in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Prepare and distribute communications for stores to ensure category information or updates are provided in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and liaise with relevant departments including Planogram, Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain and Promotions to resolve issues or concerns in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Gather and compile data/info from multiple vendors to prepare worksheets for submission for all seasonal/food programs.

This position requires a demonstrated level of initiative and judgment to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects. Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in everyday working relationships.

  • Requires an understanding of inter-related work processes to be able to adapt to differing assignments.
  • Provides routine information to coordinate the assignments and work procedures of others.
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy, and discretion in dealing with vendors and colleagues including senior management.
  • Draws on a number of known options to solve problems and to develop improvements.
  • Computer skills to produce effective spreadsheets, reports, documents, and presentations as required.
  • Database management.
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions. Able to work with diverse personalities and styles.
  • Communicates with clarity, verbally, via e‑mail, in one‑on‑one or group situations, or over the telephone.
  • Knowledge of category management and merchandising practices and principles.
Experience

Greater than one-year general business or merchandising experience.

Education

Post‑secondary education with courses in business, merchandising or equivalent.
