Job Description:
The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) engineer provides expertise and technical leadership in the design of systems involving momentum, energy, and mass transport.
The CFD Engineer is responsible for performing simulations for aero/thermal development, supporting cooling, thermal protection, and climate control development.
The CFD Engineer will collaborate with Thermal Integration engineers, Engine Systems, HVAC/Interior, Body engineering, Advanced Design Engineering, and Styling Studio to communicate simulation results and recommendations.
The candidate will utilize simulation software such as STAR-CCM+, ANSA, and TAITherm to perform required simulations.
Detailed job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform vehicle-level CFD simulations to support Aero/Thermal Development, including powertrain cooling, HVAC cooling, air induction, and thermal protection.
- Conduct CFD simulations focused on automotive paint processes, primarily electrodeposition coating (eCoat) simulations.
- Contribute to future vehicle programs emphasizing process efficiency and innovation.
- Proactively develop and execute CFD simulations for new programs based on vehicle content and functional objectives.
- Collaborate closely with aero/thermal integration engineers, release groups, and design studios to communicate results and implement design improvements.
- Prepare high-quality presentations to communicate simulation results and design recommendations.
- Ensure CFD model validity and correlation through continuous validation.
- Implement design changes to demonstrate benefits and perform 'what if' studies to guide design decisions.
- Engage fully in vehicle development activities and proactively manage simulation tasks to support the design team.
- Participate in vehicle testing to enhance correlation between physical testing and virtual simulations.
- Coordinate with offshore teams as needed to execute projects.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience with a commercial CFD software package.
- Experience applying CFD in an industrial setting, with proficiency in Star-CCM, ANSA, and TAITherm considered a significant asset.
- Solid understanding of fluid flow and heat transfer principles.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems and subsystems, especially cooling, HVAC, and Powertrain systems.
- Exposure to thermal testing and validation is a plus.
- Programming experience with JAVA and Matlab is an asset.
- Ability to travel to the USA 1-2 times per month for meetings.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong focus on CFD methods, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Education:
- Master's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
