A community-oriented hospice service in Farnham is seeking Bank Registered Nurses to provide high-quality patient and family-focused care in a supportive environment. The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong clinical assessment skills and a commitment to compassionate care, with training provided for those new to palliative care. This role offers flexible shifts and a commitment to professional development.
Phyllis Tuckwell provides palliative and end of life care for people living with an advanced or terminal illness. Based in Farnham, Camberly and Guildford, we serve a population of 550,000 across West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

£16.67 to £17.90 per hour (dependant on experience) plus enhancements

Phyllis Tuckwell are seeking motivated and dynamic Bank Registered Nursesto join our friendly and supportiveInpatient team. This is an exciting opportunity as we prepare to move back to a new 18 bedded Inpatient unit at Phyllis Tuckwell in Farnham. The Inpatient Unit is currently 10 beds, located in temporary accommodation in Camberley.
We are looking to recruit Bank Registered Nurses who valueflexibility and are looking for a rewarding role where they can provide high quality patient & family focused care within a supportive environment.
Successful candidates will have the ability to assess and interpret clinical conditions, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be competent with IT systems.
Whilst palliative care experience is valuable, it is not essential as full training and support will be given.

Job Purpose:
The postholder will maintain the highest standards of nursing carewith patients, their families and carers in the In-Patient Unit. This role willinvolve providing holistic assessment, identification of patient needs, careplanning and care provision jointly with other multidisciplinary team members,so that people who use our service receive co-ordinated, compassionate andperson-centred care.
The role requires a commitment toenabling choice and providing respectful and dignified support for people asthey approach the end of life and to their families and carers. The postholder will contribute to a safe,effective, and efficient culture by participating in riskassessment and by working in accordance with Phyllis Tuckwell (PT) policies andprocedures.
Responsibilities
1.0 Clinical
1.1To provide best practice usingevidence-based care to underpin the delivery of safe, effective, responsive,compassionate care.
1.2To provide clinical guidanceand support to staff, both paid and voluntary.
1.3To ensure statutoryobligations are met and staff follow those that are relevant to the clinicalarea.
1.4To ensure quality standardsare maintained and enhanced, and constantly re-evaluated in order to providethe highest standards of holistic care.
1.5To co-ordinate 24-hourprovision of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursingcare.
1.6To work as part of themulti-disciplinary team, where there is a healthy regard and value formulti-professional knowledge and skills to enhance patient and familyexperience.
1.7To ensure patient recordsare properly maintained in accordance with NMC guidelines and PT policies.
1.8To be able to demonstrate anunderstanding of issues relating to the ethical aspects of palliative care andtheir application in the workplace.
1.9To report accidents,incidents and complaints to the Ward Sister/ line Manager/ or on-call Manager,and or Medical Director where appropriate.
1.10 To understand and adhere to the PT Medication Management policy inrelation to the correct handling, usage, and administration of all drugsincluding controlled drugs.
2.0 Professional
2.1To understand and workwithin the Health and Social Care Act (2012), the PT business plan andphilosophy.
2.2To work as part of themultidisciplinary team, providing holistic care to patients, their families andcarers centred on understanding their needs and preferences for care provision.
2.3To provide appropriateinformation and support to patients, carers and friends in accordance withCaldicott principles.
2.4To liase and developeffective relationships with external health care professionals and otheragencies ensuring patient continuity across all care settings.
3.0 Managerial
3.1To ensure a safe workingenvironment is maintained, in accordance with the PT Governance, Care, Fire andHealth and Safety policies, reporting any potential hazards to the line manager
3.2To report any feedbackconcerns and complaints from patients, their relatives or other advocates tothe Ward Sister, line Manager, or manager on call as appropriate.
3.3To ensure that the team hasthe appropriate skill mix and nursing resources are used wisely.
3.4To ensure team cohesion andspirit is maintained through ongoingsupportive relationships, and consideration of colleagues at all times
3.5To act up for the Nurse KeyWorker as required, ensuring ongoing continuity and communication of care.
3.6To help support a culture ofongoing professional and personal development relating to clinicalpractice.
3.7In the community to adhereto the lone working policy, to underpin staff and patient safety.
4.0 Training and Development
a)Team
4.1To develop an area ofclinical expertise and disseminate to peer team members as a specialistresource
4.2To support the professionaldevelopment and safe practice of others.
b) Personal & professional
4.3To maintain up-to-dateclinical experience and knowledge and be able to provide evidence of this,including for re-validation purposes.
4.4To act as an assessor andmentor to administrative personnel and students who need to develop skills andacquire experience in the field of palliative care.
4.5Through the use of the PTannual appraisal, encourage professional growth and identify areas fordevelopment.
4.6To strengthen and developclinical skills across all care settings in conjunction with line manager.
5.0 Research
5.1To participate in researchand audit within the PT environment, encouraging staff participation.
5.2To implement findings ofevidence-based practice.
6.0Safeguarding, Equality,Diversity and Inclusion
Role holders arerequired to understand their responsibilities in the safeguarding context,ensuring that Phyllis Tuckwell reduces the risk of harm or abuse of adults andchildren at risk.
