Duties

• Provide holistic nursing care with effective communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
• Understand client-centred care in a forensic psychiatric setting.
• Lead and participate in groups.
• Assess patient readiness and provide individualized teaching.
• Manage assigned caseload and take in-charge responsibilities.
• Manage care for patients in crisis.
• Administer medication safely as per policies.
• Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in relevant committees.
• Apply the Mental Health Act and related legislation.
• Perform patient restraint as outlined in the Task Analysis.
• Follow safety practices and policies.
• Maintain a work environment aligned with anti-racism and discrimination policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• BScN preferred.
• Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years recent nursing experience in Psychiatry (mandatory).
• Experience in Forensic Psychiatry preferred.
• Knowledge of MHA and relevant legislation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
• Meet nursing practice standards of the College of Nurses.
• Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation is an asset.
• CPR certification within the last 12 months.
• Complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
• Update WHMIS and Fire training within the last 12 months.
• Complete RAI-MH training upon hire and input data regularly.
• English proficiency at level A; bilingual (French / English) is an asset.

Salary Range : $39.07 to $56.00 per hour
