An Indigenous-led project management organization in Neebing, Ontario, seeks a Bamijikewin (Vegetation Management) Coordinator to develop and oversee their Vegetation Management Plan. The ideal candidate will engage Indigenous participation while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include collaborating with internal and external partners, emphasizing safety and environmental protection. Become a team member for the largest Indigenous-led infrastructure project in Canada, which will connect 17 remote First Nation communities in Northern Ontario with clean, reliable, and accessible grid power. Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FortisOntario Inc., acts as the Project Manager of Wataynikaneyap Power. Wataynikaneyap Power is a licensed transmission entity, majority-owned by a partnership of 24 First Nation communities in partnership with Fortis Inc. and other private investors. The partnership is an unprecedented undertaking and has constructed 1,800 kilometres of 230 kV, 115 kV, and 44 kV transmission lines and 22 substations in northwestern Ontario. The Bamijikewin (Vegetation Management) Coordinator is responsible for the development and oversight of Wataynikaneyap Power’s Bamijikewin (Vegetation Management) Plan and Program. The role serves as a vegetation management expert, integrating Indigenous participation and engagement, regulatory and legislative requirements, industry best practices, and program management to support effective planning and delivery of vegetation management activities aligned with the Plan. The Coordinator works collaboratively with internal and external partners to support decision-making and advance a sustainable and efficient vegetation management program, ensuring all assigned work is carried out accurately and efficiently while demonstrating a personal commitment to the safety of co-workers, the public, oneself, and the environment.
