A leading nuclear engineering firm is seeking an Applications Engineer to support the design and quoting process for In-Core Instrumentation. This role involves collaborating with commercial teams to deliver customer-centric solutions. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering, at least 5 years of relevant experience, and strong communication skills. The position is located in the Region of Waterloo, Cambridge, Canada.
The Applications Engineer supports the commercial design and quoting process for In-Core Instrumentation (ICI), probes, and sensors used in nuclear reactors. These instruments are critical for monitoring and controlling reactor core conditions—neutron flux, temperature, and pressure—to ensure safe and efficient operation.
This role bridges the gap between engineering and commercial teams, providing technical expertise during the exploratory design phase to ensure proposed solutions align with both customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities. The Applications Engineer partners closely with the commercial organization to support major nuclear utilities as well as emerging SMR (Small Modular Reactor) operators, delivering technically sound, cost-effective solutions tailored to each reactor’s needs.
EDUCATIONAL Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering (or related field). Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE Minimum 5+ years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry, ideally in core instrumentation, neutron flux sensors, or radiation detection systems.
Prior exposure to in-core instrumentation or reactor physics applications strongly preferred.
Experience supporting customer proposals, design reviews, or bid development within a regulated technical environment.
Required ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone.
Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
Verbal and listening skills required.
Work will be performed in the office and various production site work environments.
