Job description
Overview

CIMA+’s Earth and Environment team have adopted sustainability as a core value and prioritize the environmental, social, and economic benefits of every project. Our engineers and certified technicians have the detailed knowledge of local conditions to provide the full range of environmental services for clients in both the public and private sectors. We have the skills to execute complex environmental projects, but we also integrate green solutions into every infrastructure, building, transportation, and energy project we undertake. Join us and immerse yourself in a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative environment where you’ll make a real impact. Together, we’ll push boundaries and go above what’s expected of us to meet the challenges of tomorrow and engineer a better world!

CIMA+ continues to grow and expand its Earth and Environment team in Southern Ontario. Our Natural Environment Team is seeking an Aquatic Ecologist to support projects in Southern Ontario. The successful candidate will join our team of biologists, environmental professionals, and field technicians, contributing expertise in field programs and natural heritage reporting for diverse sectors including energy, waterpower, transportation, and land development for both public and private clients.

This role offers the opportunity to participate in our hybrid work model, which includes flexible hours, remote work options, and access to one of our offices located across the GTA (Kitchener, Guelph, Burlington, Mississauga, Spadina-Fort York, or Bowmanville).

This position will focus on aquatic habitat assessments in support of infrastructure development. The aquatic information would be incorporated into environmental impact studies and used as a part of permit applications. Our current field needs are for an Ecologist who can demonstrate aptitude with aquatic habitats and fish identification.

This role offers room for professional growth and advancement, including opportunities to develop project and team management skills.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct aquatic habitat assessments, fish community inventories, and support additional environmental surveys.
  • Provide the aquatic scope of impacts to reports, ecological studies, and permit applications.
  • Develop appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures.
  • Complete requests for authorizations and permits under the Endangered Species Act, Fisheries Act, and Species at Risk Act.
Qualifications
  • Relevant Degree or Diploma such as Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or additional years of experience.
  • Educational or practical experience with aquatic life and the environment, preferentially from a consulting perspective.
  • Interest in understanding aquatic legislations and policies.
  • Team player and ability to work with a diverse team across the entire province.

At CIMA+, we value diversity of talent and perspective. You think you can add value, but don’t meet all the job requirements? We invite you to apply, because everyone has something unique to offer. The outstanding talents that choose to join us at CIMA+ soon realize that we go all out to encourage them to grow. We look forward to hearing how you can contribute to our success.

Why choose CIMA+?
  • Comprehensive Group Benefits available from day one for all permanent employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program.
  • Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with up to 4% employer contribution.
  • As an employee-owned company, an annual opportunity to purchase shares for all employees.
  • Flexible work schedule in a hybrid work mode.
  • Work/Life balance policy across Canada.
  • 3-5 weeks of vacation, based on years of relevant experience.
  • Tailored training to improve your existing skills.
