Position: Senior SQA Test Lead

Compensation Details :

  • Software Engineer 18 : Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Halifax, or Vancouver.

Team Overview:

  • The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
    • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
    • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
    • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
    • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
  • The Senior SQA Test Lead is responsible for directing and managing the entire testing lifecycle for one or more complex cross functional projects affecting multiple interfaces and/or applications. The individual in this role will be responsible for leadership in test automation strategy development and execution, researching automation tools, leveraging Artificial Intelligence, deploying new test frameworks, and managing the development and execution of testing deliverables for IT projects. This candidate will be responsible to ensure software applications' quality, reliability, and performance, they play a critical role in enhancing the quality and performance of software applications.
  • A background in computer science, proficiency in programming languages such as .NET, Python, or C#, and experience with automation testing tools like Selenium or Robot Framework are essential prerequisites for the ideal candidate.
  • The successful candidate will interface with various project teams to assess testing needs for the project, analyze and interpret test results, establish and review metrics, and communicate results and recommendations to a technical and business audience. This role will provide mentorship on testing concepts, implementation, and best practices improvements within the organization, including the use of the 3 Amigos framework. Practical communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a keen eye for detail are critical for success in this role.

What you will be doing:

  • Creating the test plan: prepare a detailed test plan outlining test objectives, schedule, deliverables, environment setup, and resource allocation. This plan serves as a structured blueprint to guide all testing activities and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Using AI tools: apply AI to accelerate code writing and quality control. Using the 3 Amigos framework, collaborate with delivery teams to ensure compliance, improve test coverage, and support test team coordination.
  • Supporting the test team: assign tasks, set priorities, monitor progress, and provide guidance, support, and training to team members. You help improve their skills, productivity, and alignment with testing best practices.
  • Designing and reviewing tests: collaborate with the test team to create and review test scenarios, cases, scripts, and data. Ensure they are comprehensive, effective, and aligned with the overall test strategy and business requirements.
  • Managing test execution and reporting: oversee the execution of test cases, ensure adherence to the test plan, and address issues promptly. monitor progress and prepare detailed reports highlighting defects, severity, and overall software quality.
  • Tracking defects and coaching developers: manage defects using a tracking system, collaborate with developers to ensure timely resolution, and coach them in writing effective test cases that align with quality standards.
  • Supporting UAT and analyzing issues: work with business users to complete User Acceptance Testing (UAT), support the analysis of any gaps found, and document defects, questionable functions, and inconsistencies in software behavior and outputs.
  • Improving processes and consulting: evaluate the effectiveness of the testing process, identify areas for improvement, and implement enhancements. Establish testing standards, consult with product and business teams on system requirements, and maintain clear communication on project limitations and performance impacts.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Management information systems or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Web Application Testing: Proven track record of testing web applications, including functional, usability, security, and performance testing .
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Test Lead.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Agile.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience testing the backend services (API) and integration points of application.
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops, Jira, Service Now or other requirement/defect management tool(s).
  • Experience with Python.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT systems development principles and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience in Accessibility Compliance.
  • Experience in using source code management system (GitHub).
  • Experience with Playwright JS.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Experience with Robot Framework.
  • Knowledge of database management and SQL for testing database applications and verifying data integrity.
  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
