What You’ll Do

As the Underground Operator, you will ensure the safe and effective preparation and delivery of correct explosive product to the underground magazines or loading site, assist in troubleshooting and maintain all equipment types and support ongoing general site operations. Other duties will include:

  • Unload product shipments into surface magazines and deliver explosives and detonators underground as directed by the mine site supervision.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment when not in proper working condition.
  • Work independently, traveling between the underground loading site and the plant on a 14 day rotation (some out of town work, weekend work and shift work may also be required).
  • Contribute to the establishment of strong positive relations between the Company and the Client.
  • Respond readily and in a manner that reinforces the reputation of the Company as a supplier with the highest standards of product quality and customer service.
  • Possess a good general knowledge of handling, storing and using explosives underground and on surface (NRC regulations).
  • Accurately and fully complete all required documentation and reports within time requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.
  • Guarantee that a safe working environment is maintained in compliance with all of Dyno Nobel’s safety rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate initiative and embrace the Company’s standards for safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in safety meetings, read safety documents (safety alerts, emergency plans, etc.) and report all accidents, incidents, and precautionary concerns.
  • Respect and support fellow employees
  • Attend specified training & development and maintain required certifications.
  • Assist in site maintenance and general operations as required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Underground common core training & certification preferred, considered an asset
  • Drivers license
  • Basic mechanical abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with underground equipment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to work on flexible schedules, long distance traveling.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) – a valuable asset to help with our Quebec operations
  • Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
