Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the primary role of Crane Operator is to operate a 15Ton Broderson crane for the transfer of heavy objects and steelwork to perform construction activities in an underground environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform safe operation of mobile cranes to move, position or place equipment, and materials, as required, for the erection of structures to complete underground infrastructure construction.
  • Communicate clearly & effectively through the use of radio, hand signals, and/or other systems.
  • Assist with the planning and direction of workers in lift plans.
  • Perform pre-operational and post-operational inspection of equipment to ensure safety & effective operation. This includes calculating crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting.
  • Test, clean, lubricate, and assist in routine maintenance of equipment as necessary and document any maintenance/repair work needing to be completed. Advise supervisor of any deficiencies.
  • Responsible to ensure and maintain adequate rigging supplies.
  • Maintain a clean & clear workspace.
  • Participate in safety toolbox talks and follow all site policies & procedures to ensure compliance; and
  • Duties may include operating other machinery as required.

Health And Safety

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Valid Crane Operator Certification
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Valid drivers license
  • Operate 15Ton Broderson cranes

Work Experience

  • Five (5) years of crane operating experience in open pit or mining related industry

Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of crushing machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Physical stamina to work long hours in challenging conditions, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting heavy objects
  • Attention to detail and ability to detect and resolve equipment malfunctions and maintenance issues
  • Good communication skills to interact with other team members and supervisors effectively
  • Respectful of cultural differences
