Conditions of Employment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to travel within the province to worksites by ground, water or air transportation which may require overnight stays.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5F driver’s licence.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Post-Secondary education in Education, Adult Education, Human Resources, or in a related field. An extensive combination of equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in adult learning theory and practice, including needs assessment, program and course design and development, instructional design, facilitation and instruction, and evaluation.
  • Experience delivering training sessions with the use of audio-visual instructional aids and the ability to employ such devices effectively.
  • Comprehensive understanding of adult learning principles and practices, and the ability to apply that knowledge to developing creative solutions to meet the employee development needs of the department.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with program areas, trainers, consultants, educational institutions and recruitment agencies.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate thoughts clearly in speech and experience presenting and facilitating training sessions to diverse audiences.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write clearly and produce documents, training materials, and reports as required.
  • Knowledge of applied financial management for program budgeting and cash flow management.
  • Ability to work independently including managing competing deadlines and multiple projects of varying complexity.
  • Experience in consulting and coaching with the ability to act as a resource to various stakeholders within the department on best practices for learning and development.
  • Knowledge of educational techniques with the ability to plan, co-ordinate and instruct training sessions.
Duties

The Training and Development Consultant is accountable for guiding the learning and development of individuals and groups within the department of Transportation and Infrastructure, providing strategic advice to ensure that developmental needs are identified and addressed in a manner consistent with government policies and priorities.

This position provides specialist expertise and consultative support to the department and is responsible for preparing, evaluating, and/or executing relevant training programs with the aim of improving performance and productivity, and providing career progression opportunities for employees within the department.

This position is responsible for developing and updating training courses for various program areas, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and staff development to achieve department goals. The position is also responsible for managing MTI’s representation at recruitment and retention events such as career fairs, presentations at recruitment agencies, employer on campus events etc.
