CASA Classrooms

You will be a part of a team that works within community schools, right where children live and learn. The CASA Classrooms program provides individual and group therapy, psychiatric care, medication management and schooling according to each student’s individual need. CASA Classrooms are CASA’s new model for school-based mental health service. The program is delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

Job Details

Wage range: $33.92 to $41.70

Vacation: 4.18 hours, accrued bi-weekly

Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

Primary location: Lloydminster

About the Role

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Therapy Support Navigator works closely with assigned program area Mental Health Therapists (MHT) to support screening, case management, delivery of treatment and achievement of treatment plans. The Therapy Support Navigator has an integral role within the therapy team to provide treatment extension, promote the uptake and application of skills within family, and school settings. The Therapy Support Navigator also facilitates child, adolescent, and parent treatment groups under the supervision of the MHTs.

The Therapy Support Navigator will:

  • Assist Mental Health Therapists/Physicians in screening and assessment interviews, in order to develop a treatment plan for mental health services.
  • Participate in the case management of assigned caseload.
  • Provide hands-on modelling and coaching to family members as determined and guided by the treatment plan.
  • Coordinate and facilitate psycho-educational/treatment groups for patients and their families.
  • Provide outreach support for youth in the community, in consultation with the CASA Classrooms and Transition teams.
  • Develop and maintain a list of community resources and use these to refer patients and families to community agencies for additional mental health support.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, arts (majoring in psychology), education or related field.>
  • Minimum of three years of practical experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting, with a particular emphasis on dual diagnosis, learning disability, developmental delay and executive dysfunction.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a vehicle.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) or Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) training, as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
