Job description

Description: Brooke Valley School is an alternative private school for grades K through 6. We arecelebrating over 40 years as a parent run cooperative. The school is located in a rural setting on 5 acres of land blessed with open fields, hills, mixed forests and a pond for science studies and ice skating. We stay connected to our natural world through outdoor play and field study. We use the provincial curriculum as a guide, enhancing it by drawing from Waldorf pedagogy, arts and project based learning to support students. We encourage the expression and social-emotional development of each unique child through theater, music, creative writing, and outdoor learning. We are also a registered charitable foundation.

Commitment: Late August- June: Full Time (24 hours/week in classroom teaching time + prep time). Availability to begin teaching September, 2025.

Compensation: $40,500 - $59,525.76/year

Responsibilities: Our teacher is responsible for planning and facilitating learning experiences with the teaching and volunteer team for various grade levels from JK-6. The school currently runs 4 days of the week. Teachers share with the teaching team, volunteers and the parent team, the duties of ensuring the school is clean, organized and safe. Teachers are responsible for communicating with parents and volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the school.

Operational Requirements:

  • Available to work overtime and flexible hours in a busy environment
  • Supervise Volunteers
  • Occasional evening and weekend work to report to monthly board meetings, conduct parent-teacher meetings, school events and field trips.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a vehicle
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certifications (Red Cross or St. John’s Ambulance) and a clear criminal records check are required for this position

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor of Education, Masters of Education, or significant elementary level teaching experience is required

  • Experience teaching Outdoor Education is an asset
  • Experience in Project based learning and experiential education is an asset.
