WSP is seeking a System Security Specialist to join our Rail and Transit team at a dedicated project site in the Toronto area. The System Security Officer will provide emergency and security expertise for construction projects.

What you can expect to do here:
- Develop security programs and specifications for large-scale, multi-department projects.
- Advise on security planning during facility design stages.
- Support the development of System Security Assurance cases throughout project lifecycles.
- Review Contractor's Security Plans, Safe Work Methods, and inspect construction sites.
- Contribute to site readiness documentation, including security risk registers and incident tracking.
- Conduct reviews and inspections to assess security needs and loss prevention.
- Deliver training sessions and seminars.
- Make recommendations on security technologies and system improvements (e.g., CCTV, access control).
- Oversee implementation and commissioning of security systems.
- Prepare security survey reports, assess risks, deficiencies, and recommend loss prevention strategies.
- Assist Testing & Commissioning teams with assessments of physical and procedural security measures.
- Ensure compliance with legislated requirements, industry standards, and corporate policies.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- Strong interpersonal skills, calm and composed under pressure.
- 5+ years’ experience in security, preferably in military police, police, or large organizations with security departments.
- Certified Protection Professional Certification (CPPC) is required.
- Knowledge of safety, Fire/Life Safety legislation, and principles.
- Ability to analyze architectural and engineering drawings.
- Understanding of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design principles.
- Familiarity with ISO Security standards.
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations, with a focus on safety culture and accident prevention.
Additional qualifications:
- Familiarity with emergency planning and response.
- Knowledge of Threat, Risk & Vulnerability Assessments (TRVAs), security plans, site inspections, and modern security systems.
- Ability to establish strong client relationships and provide practical solutions.
- Safety professional certifications like CRSP or PSP are assets.
- Knowledge of legislation and standards such as CSA, ULC, Criminal Codes, Trespass to Property Act.
- Experience with transit projects (railway, subway, light rail, buses) and agencies (e.g., TTC, Metrolinx) is advantageous.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
Preferred experience:
- Integration of security and emergency protocols in design-build projects.
- Familiarity with Metrolinx standards, managing multiple contractors, and industry regulations.
