Job Description

The House of Commons’ Maintenance and Material Handling Services is currently looking to create a pool of candidates for anticipatory staffing of the Supervisor, Maintenance and Material Handling Services role on a determinate or indeterminate basis. This recruitment and selection process is restricted to Maintenance and Material Handling Services employees.

The Supervisor plans, coordinates, supervises, and inspects the operational activities of a crew of cleaning and/or maintenance and material handling staff to ensure the provision of safe, efficient, and effective services within the buildings or area being supervised in keeping with the quality and client service standards of Maintenance and Material Handling Services (MMHS).

This position requires leadership by example, along with strong interpersonal skills to supervise and motivate a team of up to 25 employees. Intermediate oral and written communication skills in both official languages are essential to effectively address employee inquiries and client requests. Strong organizational abilities and well-developed logistical skills are also necessary to ensure the efficient execution of responsibilities.

This team has a requirement of a 24/7 support model, and work activities related to this role may require shift work, irregular hours and overtime to meet our operational requirements. As part of this position, you must work onsite. Candidates must be able to wear CSA-approved footwear.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Must have a valid WHMIS 2015 for Worker's certification.

Experiences:

  • Experience with industrial/commercial cleaning functions, cleaning products, and equipment;
  • Experience with room set-ups;
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) in a work environment.

Assets:

  • Experience in the supervision of employees;
  • Experience with quality assurance practices including site inspections;
  • Experience in workload management;
  • Experience in a client service environment, responding to inquiries and dealing with complaints.
