MCW is currently looking for a self-motivated Substation High Voltage Electrical Engineer to join our Winnipeg Office. You will be part of the AGE Power team working on electrical substation, commercial and industrial high voltage design projects. Your position will play a key role in the delivery of successful projects and will require strong leadership, collaboration, and communications skills. Responsibilities: The Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Electrical design of high voltage electrical substations including:
  • Grounding Studies and designs using CDEGS software.
  • Field measurements for input into grounding studies including soil resistivity measurements and fall-of potential measurements.
  • Protection and control design implementation including schematic design, wiring design, panel and control building layouts, cable schedules, bills of materials.
  • Physical design of switchyard equipment in consideration of required clearances and connections including station layouts, sections, details, cable schedules, bills of materials.
  • Arc flash, coordination and short circuit studies using eTAP and Easy Power software.
  • High voltage services and designs for industrial and commercial facilities including medium/high voltage emergency power designs, utility coordination, feeder specification, routing and duct bank design, cable pull calculations, layouts and details for constructability and coordination with other relevant disciplines.
  • Working with project team and project manager to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Working with clients and contractors, responding to technical inquiries as required.
  • Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
  • Helping to establish and promote client relationships.
  • Coordinating with internal production teams
  • Striving to ensure quality and timely delivery of finished products to clients.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications, Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from an institution that is either Canadian or recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Specialization in electrical power systems considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 6 years working as a professional engineer or engineer in training. A minimum of 2 of these years as a professional engineer.
  • EGM membership or eligibility for same.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with customers and clients is an asset.

Required Skills/Technical Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CDEGS, eTAP and/or Easy Power considered assets.
  • Experience performing grounding system impedance measurements and/or soil resistivity measurements considered assets.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and National Codes of Canada considered assets.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines/successful completion of deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Analytical, thorough, resourceful and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, team members and other departments in a positive and congenial manner.
