Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the recovery team at HMP Risley, a Category C male prison near Warrington. HMP Risley offers a fast paced, unique rewarding environment where you can learn and develop.

Hours: Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, shifts 8 am–4 pm.

Salary: £29,264‑£33,510 per year, dependent on experience.

Main duties
  • Deliver outstanding care to psychosocial patients, seeking out, listening to, and acting on their feedback to ensure personalised care.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 30‑40 patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health and trauma.
  • Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction, etc.
  • Provide a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments.
  • Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.
  • Prepare patients for release and transfer.
  • Deliver 1‑to‑1 care as well as group sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must have a legal right to work in the UK. Due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks. A DBS check (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act Exceptions Order 1975) is required.
