Position Summary

The Subcontract Manager is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of project subcontracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, effective change control, and sound commercial management. This role serves as the key liaison between subcontractors and project teams, providing expert advice on risks, claims, and opportunities while safeguarding project financial and commercial outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of project subcontracts, from award to closeout, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee and implement change control and management processes across client and subcontractor agreements.
  • Administer the project’s contract governance framework, ensuring adherence to contractual terms, regulations, and corporate policies.
  • Negotiate, draft, and amend contract terms and conditions with clients, subcontractors, and consultants to protect project and company interests.
  • Provide commercial advice to project leadership on contractual risks, entitlements, and opportunities.
  • Evaluate proposed changes, claims, and variations, providing strategic recommendations and leading negotiations to resolution.
  • Prepare, review, and approve contract documentation including change orders, notices, claims, and settlements.
  • Monitor contract performance, including deliverables, costs, and timelines, ensuring alignment with project plans and budgets.
  • Forecast and analyze cash flow, costs, and revenue to support project financial management and reporting.
  • Lead monthly cost and contract performance reviews, identifying deviations and recommending corrective actions.
  • Act as the key point of contact for contractual correspondence, dispute resolution, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure risks, obligations, and issues impacting contracts are identified early, communicated effectively, and mitigated appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records and audit-ready documentation using contract management tools (Aconex, etc.).
Education and Qualifications
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Law or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in contract management or commercial management within infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong experience with standard form contracts (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JCT).
  • Proficiency with contract management software / tools (e.g. Aconex, CEMAR).
  • Demonstrated expertise in change control, claims management, and risk allocation.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with proven experience in forecasting and budget performance reporting.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical and legal documentation and provide practical contractual solutions.
  • Track record of managing subcontractor relationships alongside client-facing contractual obligations.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth in contract law, risk management, and dispute resolution.
