What It Takes

The Music Librarian will assist faculty and staff in the Music department in organizing the distribution of music and maintaining the inventory of the Music Library. Students currently enrolled in the Music department are preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and assist with the distribution and collection of Music library materials including ensemble music, textbooks, and other materials.
  • Provide faculty with assistance in locating music when requested.
  • Organize, file and re-shelve Music Library materials.
  • Assist other Music Student Assistants with preparing scores and parts in advance of rehearsals.
  • Maintain the general cleanliness and organization of the Music Library.
  • Assist with equipment inventory
  • Other activities as directed by the Music Technician
To Be Successful in This Role You Will Need
  • Highly organized and capable of working independently
  • Strong music literacy (ability to read music)
  • Experience with managing information in Excel
Eligibility

Domestic students: Must meet ONE of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

  • Be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
  • Have been enrolled in and maintained a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and indicate an intention to enroll in the term immediately following the work term; OR
  • Be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR
  • Have been enrolled in and maintained a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.

International students: Must meet ONE of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

  • Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College, throughout the academic year; OR
  • Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows employment on or off campus, and provide proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution.

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.

Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.

Additional Information

Position is located at the New Westminster campus. Hours of work: up to 20 hours/week. Work terms:

  • Fall 2025: September 2, 2025 – December 15, 2025
  • Winter 2026: January 5, 2026 – April 24, 2026
  • Summer 2026: May 4, 2026 – August 16, 2026
