Overview

Raytheon is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to provide packaging designs and engineering in support of purchased parts and assemblies, manufacturing processes, and finished product outbound to customers. Our products span a wide range from small devices to large end items such as radars, shelters, and antennas. This role supports multiple production programs by creating and maintaining packaging solutions for preservation and shipment of deliverables. The position balances multiple projects and customers in a dynamic manufacturing environment, supports cost reduction and process improvement initiatives, and supports manufacturing activities on the production floor.

What You Will Do

  • Develop thoughtful, effective, and innovative packaging solutions to preserve and safely ship hardware.
  • Create packaging designs using CREO 3D CAD, including protective cushioned packs, corrugated structures, wood crates and assemblies, and vacuum-formed plastics.
  • Initiate cost reductions and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Mission Assurance, Test Engineering, Operations, Traffic, Safety, and EHS to ensure on-time, value-driven deliverables.
  • Create and update work instructions to capture and meet all technical requirements for assembly.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action when defects occur.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Package Performance testing using ASTM D4169 and/or ISTA protocols.
  • Develop and maintain special packaging instructions and drawings meeting Military and Best Commercial standards.
  • Undertake safety initiatives including job hazard analysis and ergonomic assessments.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience with CREO or other CAD software.
  • Experience with project management.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Knowledge of distribution environments and their influence on packaging design.
  • Knowledge and experience meeting MIL-STD-2073 military packaging requirements.
  • Existing CFR 49/IATA certification (or ability to become certified) to package, mark, label, and ship dangerous goods.
  • Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing assembly, torque controls, and tolerance stack analysis.
  • Experience with cushion curves, shock and vibration testing and analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present ideas to senior-level stakeholders.
