We provide insights for industries ranging from agriculture to mining, insurance, and government intelligence, with a mission to build the world’s most advanced change detection system to capture, analyze, and interpret global shifts in near real-time.

OUR CREW
Our global, distributed team includes business development, sales, marketing and support professionals, data scientists, software engineers, project managers and finance, HR, and IT professionals. We are currently looking for an experienced, Vancouver-based Sr. Project Accountant to join our crew as part of our Global Sales readiness for frontier and disruptive products and services. This is a Vancouver-based hybrid role with in-office work required. Candidates must have full-time availability during the business hours of 9:00 am–5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be required.

PREPARE FOR IMPACT!
Reporting to the Controller, and liaising with the VP Programs and the Programs team, the Sr. Project Accountant will be responsible for preparing project costing, revenue recognition related to projects, project invoicing, and providing timely and accurate reporting. Responsibilities include:

Project Accounting

  • Responsible for accounting, reporting and finance functions relevant to capital and revenue based projects
  • Maintain financial models in Excel for project costings, scenario analysis, and other ad hoc analysis
  • Prepare and submit financial claims under various Canadian Government R&D funding programs
  • Review of New Claims & Projects & Project contracts / Support Programs team
  • Support new project bids by providing detailed costing review
  • Prepare and maintain new and ongoing projects in NetSuite & Adaptive
  • Work with Program Managers to determine optimal project resource allocations and help ensure timely and accurate completion of internal timesheets
  • Support to project-related business process analysis and improvement
  • Prepare quarterly PO reconciliation
  • Support updating project labour rates and overhead allocations on a quarterly basis
  • Support subcontract invoicing, POs and track payment milestone schedules

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Work closely with Programs team to update project staffing plans, P&L, budgeting and cash flow forecasts
  • Monthly status reports showing variance analysis, ETC, EAC, forecast maintenance (R&D and Gov't funding), and contribution table
  • Weekly cash planning and cash flow forecasting support for projects

Financing Reporting & Close Support

  • Support month-end close by preparing inputs for capitalized development costs, R&D allocations, and various accruals (including working closely with government customers)
  • Prepare revenue recognition spreadsheet & gov’t funding working papers
  • Non-Labour Project Coding for costs incurred per project
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements and the annual audit
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation an asset
  • 5+ years of experience in project accounting and management reporting
  • Experience with government grants and SR&ED is an asset
  • Experience with ERPs (NetSuite preferred) / other project accounting software
  • Experience with SharePoint
  • High-tech industry (or similar) experience an asset
Your Toolkit
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS, particularly with respect to revenue recognition
  • Expertise in building large Excel spreadsheets and maintaining them under collaborative editing
  • Experience working in a project environment and understanding project management processes and language (e.g. WBS, ETC, EAC, WPDs, etc.)
  • Experience with Government R&D projects and accounting rules preferable
  • Prior experience with month-end closings, journal entries, reconciliations and AR/AP is also required
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficient troubleshooter with expertise in identifying and resolving issues promptly
  • Team-oriented professional who coordinates with various teams to ensure seamless collaboration and project success
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment and “pitch-in” where necessary
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, results-driven professional with the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
Your Compensation

Base Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000 CAD annually. The range is based on Vancouver, BC-derived compensation for this role. Individual placement in the range is determined based on many factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The top end of the range is typically reserved for individuals that meet or exceed all required qualifications and show demonstrated experience and expertise in all responsibilities of the role.
