Purpose

Contributes to the growth and profitability of the Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) business in Canada by leading analysis and initiatives to improve portfolio performance, support the development of business strategies and ensure plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

What You’ll Do
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Working closely with RESL Finance and Analytics teams, conceive, initiate and lead analysis to uncover opportunities to improve profitability and performance of the RESL portfolio through cost reduction, asset growth, revenue enhancement, capital optimization and process controls. Lead initiatives to implement solutions based on opportunities identified.
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations and staff supporting the RRSP Investor Mortgage business and the Mortgage Subsidy business. The supporting staff is customer-facing and deals directly with the administration of these specialty mortgage portfolios.
  • Lead the annual Covered Bond Audit in collaboration with Group Treasury and the RESL Securitization Team. The Covered Bond program is a critical component of the bank’s funding strategy and a successful annual audit as mandated by CMHC enables the bank’s continued issuance of Covered Bonds. The incumbent will lead a team composed of RESL staff and temporary resources to complete the audit over a 4-6 month period each year.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Stay informed of competitive landscape to ensure that our processes, strategies and policies consider the changing landscape
What you’ll bring
  • Post-secondary education with business or finance focus preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Real Estate Secured Lending and competitive landscape
  • Lending experience/background preferred
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Solid communication/interpersonal/negotiating skills to interact with external partners and other Bank stakeholders
  • Strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, thoroughness and attention to detail
  • A high degree of self-assurance/initiative and business sense is required to perform responsibilities independently within established parameters
Working Conditions
  • Standard office environment with requirement to research/review closely.
  • Work fully independently under limited tight time.
  • During peak period, the incumbent is required to work efficiently and accurately within tight time frames to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive use of PC.
