Job description
About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join Lightspeed’s Data Science Enablement team. The focus of the team is to build the tools, frameworks, and best practices that support building production ML/AI solutions at Lightspeed. An example of a data science use case is in collaboration with Lightspeed Capital. This group powers our lending products and helps small and medium businesses around the world access the funds they need to grow. Our ML models are at the core of how we decide how much capital to offer each customer, making this role critical to our mission of enabling entrepreneurs everywhere.

As a Senior ML Engineer, you will be a hands‑on technical leader, building and scaling the MLOps platform that powers our model lifecycle; from training to validation to deployment. You’ll collaborate closely with data scientists, ensuring they can move quickly and safely from experimentation to production. This is a role with high autonomy, technical ownership, and direct business impact.

Note: As a global company with employees and clients outside of Quebec, fluency in English as a working language is required for this position.

What you’ll be doing
  • Design and implement scalable ML infrastructure, including data and model pipelines.
  • Build and evolve the MLOps platform, enabling automation of the full ML lifecycle.
  • Integrate leading ML frameworks and tools into Lightspeed’s ecosystem.
  • Manage and optimize cloud‑based ML workloads, ensuring performance and cost efficiency.
  • Partner with data scientists to streamline experimentation and deployment workflows.
  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize model performance in production.
  • Mentor teammates and promote best practices in ML engineering.
What we’re looking for
  • 5+ years of experience in ML engineering, data engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit‑Learn.
  • Proficiency in Python (Java is a plus).
  • Experience deploying and monitoring ML models in the cloud.
  • Solid knowledge of Kubernetes and CI/CD workflows for ML.
  • Strong understanding of data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a platform‑first mindset.
Nice to have
  • Experience with MLOps practices and tools, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Vertex AI.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML model lifecycle management and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
Why you’ll love this role
  • Real‑world impact: your work directly enables entrepreneurs around the globe to access the capital they need.
  • High autonomy: you’ll have the freedom to propose and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Global scale: Lightspeed products support users worldwide.
What’s in it for you
  • Join a growing team and help us move to the next level.
  • Amazing benefits & perks, including equity for all Lightspeeders.
  • Constant development of both your skill‑set and business acumen with limitless growth opportunities.
  • Lots of autonomy, flexible work culture.
  • Innovation time to explore and learn at work.
  • Shaping the company by joining cultural & technical committees.
  • Tons of growth opportunities into technical or people management roles.
  • Opportunity to join a fast‑paced, high‑growth company.
  • Opportunity to learn, expand your skill set, forge wonderful relationships and make your mark within the diverse and inclusive Lightspeed family, a true Canadian tech success story.

… And enjoy a range of benefits that will keep you happy, healthy and (not) hungry.

  • Lightspeed equity scheme (we are all owners).
  • Flexible paid time off and remote work policies.
  • Health insurance.
  • Contributions to your pension plan - RRSP.
  • Health and wellness benefit of $500 per year.
  • Paid leave and assistance for new parents.
  • Mental health online platform and counseling & coaching services.
  • Training opportunities to grow your skills and career.
  • Fully stacked kitchen (hot and cold beverages, meals served).
  • Happy hours to build your relationships with colleagues after work.
